Environmental and Social Labelling, to help our consumers make more sustainable choices.

At Garnier, we're committed to increasing transparency on our products.

INTRODUCING THE PRODUCT IMPACT LABELLING SYSTEM

Garnier is committed to improving the environmental and social profile of our products and empower consumers with the information they need to make more sustainable choices, as part of our Green beauty initiative. That’s why we’ve developed a new labelling system that provides full and transparent on the environmental and social impact of our products, in a clear and comparative way.
Now available on Garnier's haircare products (shampoos, conditioners, hair masks/leave-in products and oils) and skincare products (face make-up removers, face wash, micellar waters and creams)!

A CLEAR SCORE

The “Overall Environmental Impact” is the accumulative score of all the factors that can be attributed to the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle and presents it in a clear way for consumers to understand. The scoring system includes for example assessments during the production of ingredients, the production of packaging, the manufacture of the product, its use (including quantity of hot water used during shower or face cleansing and formula biodegradability) and the waste management of packaging.

The labelling gives each product a score, from A to E, with products labelled ‘A’ considered best in class in terms of impact. B's as our best works in progress (such as commiting to 100% recycled plastic by 2025). Thousands of L’Oréal group products representative of the variety of products on the market were analyzed to create the boundaries and the score considers 14 environmental factors from sourcing, manufacture, transportation, usage and recyclability.

MEASURING IMPACT ACROSS THE PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE

For cosmetics, the carbon footprint and the water footprint are the two main factors of impact when it comes to assessing a product's Environmental Impact. These factors represent two thirds, on average, of the overall impact of cosmetics products.

Additional information is available in the ‘Environmental and Social Impact’ section of a product’s description, where you can find details of the manufacturing conditions, the packaging and the social contribution of a product. We also look at whether the raw materials have been sustainably and solidarity sourced.

SO YOU CAN EASILY COMPARE PRODUCTS

Each product is ranked in comparison to other products in the same category so that they can easily be compared.
